Girls and Young Women Empowerment Program

Over the years Honora Tanzania PLC (Tigo), has been working in partnership with Computer Applications for Girls’ Foundation (Apps and Girls) to bridge the tech gender gap in Tanzania. This partnership has supported interventions in schools and the entire community where girls and young women have been impacted and led to the birth of tech entrepreneurs, tech creators, tech role models, and leaders driving change across Tanzania.

The program mainly focuses on girls and young women aged 14-24, currently enrolled in secondary schools, unemployed graduates and out of school young women, who never had a chance to reach higher education due to different life challenges. The girls and young women are given digital literacy skills, coding, robotics, advanced IT, business, and entrepreneurial skills that will help them use to create tech driven innovations and businesses, in addition to the training selected girls and young women receive mentorship, and incubation to help them launch their enterprises and equally participate in the digital economy as they improve their financial situation.

Through the same program, Honora partners with UN Women Tanzania Office to contribute to the empowerment of Girls and Young Women through technology under the African Girl Can Code Initiative (AGCCI) or Binti Digitali. The partnership contributes to economic empowerment for Girls and Young women who get the opportunity to participate in the training camps. At the end of the training, they increase their employability chances, entrepreneurship, and access to further studies to increase their employment credibility for economic empowerment.

Honora Tanzania PLC provides training on tech -Entrepreneurship, Photography and Graphics Designing training to girls and young women who will be registered in the UN Women camps for African Girls can Code Initiative “Binti Dijitali” and girls supported in other UN Women interventions in Tanzania, as well as donating Tigo internet connectivity to be used at the camps during the training period.

Girls and Young Women Empowerment program is extended to Lyra in Africa project in Iringa Empowering Girls and Young Women through tech- entrepreneurship training, with a particular focus on digital marketing, digital business startup incubation provided by Honora Jovia Program and to provide Honora internet connectivity to schools under Lyra in Africa and have 2,000 students connected on the internet per year, to promote digital learning in secondary schools where Lyra in Africa has donated computer laboratories.
